Shots fired into residential home because of bad restaurant review

Mr Walley was sitting at home watching television when all of a sudden a bullet flew just centimetres by his head. He mentions that he could feel the air of the bullet as it passed by him. His younger daughter Monica was just in the other room.

“I didn’t think anyone was crazy enough to do this”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that because Mr Walley’s younger daughter left a negative review for a restaurant that was near by – the gunfire was an act of retaliation.

“When this all happened, I thought, no way ! I mean like, after a bad restaurant review? This doesn’t seem right.”

There were three shots fired into the home after a white Ford Flex stopped outside their home at night. The same night the review was posted.

One of those bullets almost missed my head by inches – the man described the noise like a car backfiring. As soon as the gun shots were being fired he dove into the ground. The bullet was found in a laundry basket nearby.

The review that was posted was on a personal Facebook page – the daughter said that her disabled mother was denied service at the Daybreak Diner. Walley said that the diner told her mother she could not be served inside the restaurant without another person accompanying her. She would have to wait in her car for the food to be delivered to her.

In the last Walley said that her mother had a fall in the restaurant and she only ever returned since with her companion. Walley writes “It was my mother’s birthday, and all she wanted was her favourite Greek omelette. She arrived home back in tears.

“It was so upsetting, so I felt that I needed to share this, and it’s my right to be able to tell others like what my experience is and what happened to my mother. I think anybody in my shoes would have done the same thing.”

The post led to hundreds of negative comments online and a bunch of angry phone calls to the diner. The owner of the restaurant said that her business was ruined because of the Facebook post.

On the restaurants Facebook page, they posted a statement that stated, “To our valued customers: recently Daybreak Diner has become the center of a social media controversy alleging discrimination against a customer. The Daybreak family pride ourselves in welcoming the community into our diner and have never and will never practice any form of discrimination.”

The police arrested a 42 year old man named Normal Auvil. In their reported it is stated that he was a friend of the restaurant owner and he is a former military veteran. They reported that he had several beers the night of the shooting. Auvil was charged with shooting into a dwelling and abuse of a disabled adult.
