British man with ‘Taiwan’ tattooed on forehead claims he was beaten up by Chinese people in Cambodia

A British man known as Ferrell was assaulted while on vacation in Cambodia. On Saturday evening he attracted quite a lot of attention from a group of Chinese men who noticed his tattoo in a bar.  Ferrell said that the men shouted “Taiwan, China” and he yelled back “Taiwan, Taiwan” as a response.

Ferrell mentions on a Facebook post that he will not take his hat off in the future and that he would get the tattoo removed. He already went for a number of laser removals for the flag tattoo on his chin.

He urged Taiwanese people to be extremely careful abroad and to stay safe, adding that, aside from the group of men that beat him up he met a number of wonderful Chinese people in Cambodia.

From photos posted from Taiwan News, Ferrell has a bloody mouth and a swollen lip. He said that he had lost two teeth from the assault and has a number of bruises around his body.

China does not recognise Taiwan as a country and has put a lot of pressure on the international community over its status. Beijing maintains that the island-nation is a renegade province of China.
