A bus driver in India who let a monkey drive behind the wheel of his vehicle was suspended after a video of the event went viral online.
The bus driver was smiling and petting the langur monkey as it sat on top of the wheel of the moving bus. The footage was recorded by a passenger using his phone.
“Driver M Prakash has been taken off duty for allowing the monkey to sit on the steering wheel and handle it” said a spokesperson representing the government’s Road and Transport Corporation.
The incident took place on Monday but the authorities only learned about the video after it was shared on social media.
There were around 30 passengers on the bus at the time and none of them complained.
The local media in the area said that the monkey boarded the bus with a passenger and was at the wheel for almost ten minutes.
The state of transport authority said an investigation was being conducted on the incident.
