5 African Mythological Creatures

2. Abada

The Abada is also known as Nillekma or Arase. The creature has a few different names and they resemble closely to one Western mythical creature. That creature is the Unicorn!

Well, that’s what people say anyway. Because, NO the creature does not poop rainbows and NO it doesn’t have a horn. It has two horns on its head. So, rather than a Uni-corn, they should have said, a “Bi-corn” or a “Bi-horn” instead… but I guess that just doesn’t sound right.

Now what makes this animal special, like a unicorn, is that it has a special quality. Its horns can act as an antidote to most poisons. Thus the resemblance to the magical horned horse-like creature from the west is their healing abilities.

This creature is a legend in The Democratic Republic of Kongo and similar stories of the creature can be found in North and South Sudan as well.
